Compassionate Care for Patients of All Ages

At Spark Pediatric Dentistry, we are committed to providing compassionate, individualized dental care for patients of all ages with special health care needs (SHCN).

We understand that every patient has unique medical, developmental, behavioral, or sensory needs. Our goal is to create a safe, respectful, and supportive experience for every patient and caregiver while providing the highest quality dental care.

Our Approach

We believe every patient deserves compassionate, patient-centered care. Whenever possible, we use behavior guidance techniques recommended by the AAPD to help patients feel comfortable during treatment, including:

o   Tell-Show-Do

o   Positive reinforcement

o   Desensitization

o   Clear communication

o   Extra time when needed

o   Caregiver involvement when appropriate

We always choose the least restrictive treatment option that allows care to be delivered safely and comfortably

Hospital Dentistry & General Anesthesia

Some patients are unable to safely receive dental treatment in a traditional office setting because of extensive dental needs, medical conditions, developmental disabilities, severe anxiety, or limited ability to cooperate.

When appropriate, treatment under general anesthesia allows all necessary dental care to be completed safely and comfortably during a single visit.

When Is General Anesthesia Recommended?

General anesthesia may be recommended when a patient:

  • Has extensive dental treatment needs

  • Cannot safely cooperate for dental treatment

  • Has significant developmental, behavioral, or physical disabilities

  • Has complex medical conditions

  • Would benefit from completing treatment in one appointment

Each recommendation is made individually after a comprehensive evaluation and discussion with the patient or caregiver.

Why Families Choose Hospital Dentistry

Treatment under general anesthesia allows us to:

  • Complete comprehensive treatment in one visit

  • Reduce fear and anxiety

  • Improve comfort for patients and caregivers

  • Provide treatment in a fully monitored hospital or surgical setting

Patient safety is always our highest priority.

Parent & Caregiver FAQ

Does every patient with special health care needs require general anesthesia?

No. Many patients receive dental care comfortably in the office. General anesthesia is recommended only when it is the safest and most appropriate treatment option.

Is treatment under general anesthesia safe?

General anesthesia is carefully planned for each patient. Before treatment, we review your child's medical history, discuss the benefits and potential risks, and determine whether general anesthesia is the most appropriate option. When indicated, treatment is provided by qualified anesthesia professionals following established patient safety and monitoring guidelines.

Can all dental treatment be completed during one visit?

In many cases, yes. One of the advantages of hospital dentistry is that comprehensive treatment can often be completed during a single appointment.

Do you work with physicians and specialists?

Absolutely. We collaborate with primary care physicians, medical specialists, therapists, and caregivers to help provide safe, coordinated care.
